SUMMARY:Grow\, Cook\, Care\, Share - Waste not\, want not: Get Cultured: Th
 e Art of Fermentation
DESCRIPTION:Waste not\, want not workshop series: Transforming the way you
think about food and the seasons.\n\nGet Cultured: The Art of Fermentation
\n\nEvery year in the UK\, we throw away 6.6 million tonnes of household f
ood waste - much of it perfectly good produce that simply wasn't used in t
ime. Meanwhile\, the cost of living continues to rise\, and many of us are
looking for practical ways to make our food budget stretch further while
 eating well.\n\nOver a series of two hour workshops\, you'll learn time-te
sted techniques for preserving seasonal produce - whether it's from your g
arden\, local markets\, or those yellow-sticker bargains that represent ge
nuine savings and rescue perfectly good food from unnecessary waste.\n\nEa
ting seasonally isn't just about saving money or reducing waste (though it
does both beautifully). Seasonal eating connects us to the natural rhythm
s of the year\, often provides better nutrition and flavour\, and supports
local growers and sustainable farming practices. When we preserve food at
its peak\, we capture not just its taste\, but its nutritional value too.
\n\nBy the end of each workshop\, you'll have the confidence to turn surpl
us into treasure - transforming those "too good to waste" moments into a w
ell-stocked cupboard that serves you year-round.\nWhat you'll bring with y
ou\, create and take home: Get cultured: The art of fermentation\nIntroduc
tion to fermentation with curtido\nIn this workshop we will explore the fa
scinating process of turning fresh vegetables into something tangy\, tasty
\, and full of life—curtido!\n\nFermentation is a natural process where
tiny microbes (like bacteria and yeast) help preserve food and give it new
flavours. It’s been used for thousands of years to make bread\, yogurt\
, pickles\, and more. We will learn how to make a simple fermented cabbage
slaw that’s easy to prepare and fun to watch change over time.\n\nWorks
hop details\n\nGrow\, Cook\, Share\, Care is a Hands of Hope programme eng
aging vulnerable groups\, those with complex needs\, families\, especially
those living in food poverty\, and older people\, in learning\, wellness
and social activities aligned to growing\, cooking\, and nature.\n\nPlease
book one space per attendee\, this helps us to gather accurate data for a
ll participants\, these can be booked and managed separately using the sam
e email address.\n\nSuitable for all. Priority for spaces will be given to
people meeting the criteria: aged over 50\, young carers and young adults
with learning disabilities.\n\nThere is no charge for this workshop\, don
ations are always welcome!\n\nPlease ensure you arrive ten minutes before
the start time to ensure we can get everyone registered.
