Rural areas have a unique set of circumstances that can exacerbate the social isolation felt by older residents leading to poor health, loss of independence and lower quality of life. One of the primary aims of lunch clubs in local communities, is tackling social isolation that often accompanies old age, frailty and bereavement. The Helping Hands Lunch Club Programme aims to bring older people together to enjoy a hot nutritious meal and socialise with friends at the same time. We currently run our monthly club in Peasmarsh, the first Monday in the month from 11:00am to 2:00pm and have plans to launch a new club in Hawkhurst during 2021.
