Heritage & Horticulture Apprentice (Level 3) – Dig for Victory

Brief Description

An exciting opportunity to develop a career in horticulture while helping bring Britain’s wartime food-growing heritage to life.

Hands of Hope is looking for an enthusiastic, practical and curious individual to join our award-winning community charity as a Heritage & Horticulture Apprentice at our beautiful 22-acre Hope Farm Community Garden in Hawkhurst, Kent.

This unique apprenticeship forms part of our ambitious three-year National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported Dig for Victory – Stories, Skills and Sustainable Food Heritage programme. Working alongside our horticulture and heritage teams, you will develop practical skills in organic growing, traditional kitchen gardening, propagation and seasonal food production, while exploring the resourcefulness and sustainable practices of the Second World War.

You will help develop our Dig for Victory Garden and community growing spaces, support heritage workshops and demonstrations, and engage with schools, families, volunteers and community groups to share traditional skills and inspire future generations.

We’re looking for someone with enthusiasm, initiative and a genuine willingness to learn. You don’t need extensive horticultural experience, but you should enjoy working outdoors, have an interest in history and sustainability, and be passionate about making a positive difference in your community.

If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity to learn new skills, gain a recognised qualification and contribute to a meaningful community heritage project, we would love to hear from you.
